Workshop on Collectivism

OPEN INVITATION : How to produce collectively
A free workshop for students, artists and all those interested in group work.

The workshop How to produce collectively will be organised as a satellite event of the forthcoming symposium on the 30 year collective practice of Laibach Kunst - THE RED DISTRICT SYMPOSIUM (Past Perfect - Future Tense) at Delavski Dom Trbovlje, 24 - 26 September, 2010.

Please note: attendance at the symposium is an integral part of the workshop.

The workshop is particularly directed towards individuals and groups who seek an in depth discussion on the collective nature of Laibach and NSK’s practice, its continuation and a comparison with the strategies of a younger generation of artist and curator groups. Therefore those interested in the workshop, need to attend the whole Trbovlje Symposium in order to participate actively in the discussion.

This workshop in conjunction with the preceding symposium provides an opportunity to discuss individual approaches and projects with a peer group and experienced practitioners in the field.
We would be happy to welcome students and artists of all generations who are interested in discussing the questions of collective production: how to make the whole become more than the sum of its parts, the issue of anonymity and neglection of authorship, relation to institutions and the market, collectivity as agency and political option.

One day intervention with BridA / Tom Kerševan, Sendi Mango, Jurij Pavlica
»It is generally the artist or painter who is initiating the programme of a painting. He/she is taking control. According to his/her decision the painting is finished and made public.
To break up this hermetical process of making a painting, we have to consciously change the process. During and after the symposium, we are inviting participants to suggest another strategy, putting up for question primary the traditional way of how to produce an artwork. We are going to try to blur the border between artist and viewer, shifting their roles with the intention to make the product itself in the end more understandable to the consumer.«
